Saturday – Pittsfield
Technically it is day 3 – Saturday – not so good yesterday.
My mom and I drove for several hours Friday to the town where she grew up – Pittsfield MA. We snacked on the way on trail mix with peanuts, almonds, cashews, and raisins, so not horrible, but not great. We went so that she could visit with a friend that she has had since grade school. We were late getting to our destination but she had a spread laid out for us and I had a little bit of turkey meat and again some homemade bread. That seems to be a big deal making your own bread.
We spent the rest of the day looking at pictures and driving around town looking at the town they called home. We even drove past the home my mother grew up in, it has not changed much according to her. I even remembered where it was from a visit to my grandparents many years ago before they had moved to Arizona.
After a day of driving and running around we took her friend out to dinner at The Old Country Buffet where I stuck with some white fish and some salmon. For sure they were cooked wrong, but between that some shrimp and salad I felt like I did okay.
Then this morning we checked out of our hotel and went back to her friend’s house. My mom wanted to take her flowers but I talked her into a live plant so we took her some miniature rose plants red for love and yellow everlasting friendship. They spent about 3 or 4 hours looking at more pictures and catching up before we headed out around one o’clock. Our next destination was my mom’s nephew and my cousin Steve’s home in New Hampshire where her great niece had just graduated from high school. Her brother (Uncle Bob) and his wife (Aunt Esther) were already here and my aunt Lois who we are staying with in Maine will be down tomorrow for a family get together.
They had quite the spread for food. I stuck with humus, turkey, and crackers, but did indulge in some home brew my cousin Steve had made – I do like my beer. Worse, however, was the slice of graduation cake I had (small) and little bit (very little spoonful) of pear crisp my cousins wife Sue had made.
Today was totally a vacation day-
Make it a great day.
